A very loud student

I once took a sex education éducation sexuelle class at university, and a funny thing happened one day.

The teacher arrived and told us we’d be discussing sex positions that day, and asked us how many positions we knew. A youngjeune girl near me said, “seven.”

The professor said, “Very good.” But as he prepared toalors qu’il s’apprêtait à ask another student, a loudforte / puissante (en parlant d’une voix) voice from the back of the lecture hall amphithéâtre shouted, “ninety-one!”

The professor looked over his glasses lunettes but couldn’t really make out distinguer / reconnaître who had spoken. Finally, he called on a guy in the front row, and the guy said, “five.”

And again from the back, the same voice shouted, “ninety-one!”

Finally, the teacher pointed to a shy-looking ladyune femme à l’air timide sitting not far from me. She hesitated hésita, then said, “Only one, Sir.”

The teacher asked, “Well, that’s unusual inhabituel, young lady. And what position is that?”

“The one with the man on top and the woman under him,” she replied.

And from the back of the room, the same loud voice shouted, “ninety-two!”

📖 Simple grammar — Grammaire simple

1. Past simple for narrative
"I once took a sex education class."

2. Past continuous for background action
"He was preparing to ask another student when a voice shouted."

3. Couldn't + verbe
"He couldn't really make out who had spoken."

4. Reported speech
"She said, 'Only one, Sir.'" et "She replied."

5. The one with...
"The one with the man on top and the woman under him." » The one with sert à décrire une chose parmi d'autres.

💬 Mini dialogue — At the lecture hall

Student A: Did you understand the joke about the sex education class?
Student B: I think so. The loud guy at the back kept shouting "ninety-one!"
Student A: Yes! And at the end, when the shy woman described one position, he shouted "ninety-two!"
Student B: Because he had just learned a new one!
Student A: Exactly! He was keeping count.

Pourquoi ?
