𝔸 motorist, driving past a Tennessee ranch, hit and killed a calf that was trying to cross the road. The driver went to the farmer and explained what had happened. He then asked what the animal was worth.
"Well, about €300 today," said the farmer. "But in about six years it would have been worth at least €900. So €900 is what I'm expecting from you."
The motorist sat down and wrote out a check and gave it to the farmer.
"Here," he said, "is a check for €900. It's postdated six years from now."
The verb "expect" is different from the verb "wait". A woman expects a baby. She doesn't (physically) wait for it. But the same woman who's expecting a baby can wait for the bus. And about "upfront", when you pay upfront you pay in advance.
